The Spanish weekly’s circulation grows to 390,000 as it penetrates Southern Kern County.

El Clasificado print solidifies its position as one of Southern California’s most accessible Spanish-language publications –now with more than 18,000 points of distribution across Southern California– as it announces this month the inauguration of a new edition customized exclusively for Bakersfield and surrounding cities. The geographic extension –El Clasificado’s fourth such expansion within the past three years– is a critical move for the 21-year-old publication that has steadily grown to dominate the Southern California Hispanic market.

According to the US Census, Bakersfield has seen its Hispanic population soar by nearly 50,000 from 2000 – 2007, making them the largest ethnic minority in the region with over 127,000 Hispanic residents, second only to whites. Undoubtedly a contributing factor to this population surge is the fact that the city underwent a real estate boom and created plenty of employment opportunities in the construction industry before the current economic recession.

Since 2007, El Clasificado has expanded nearly 4,500 sq miles, and has increased its circulation by more than 100,000 weekly copies. The new Bakersfield edition brings the number of “zones” –geographic areas grouped by zip code– to 28, and the number of cities in which it is distributed to more than 200.

“Our sales team has worked very hard recently to keep up with our rapid expansions of late,” stated Sales Director Liliana Zambrano. “We are determined to penetrate the bustling Hispanic community in Bakersfield.”

Latinos from the outlying areas of Kern County, the county that houses Bakersfield, are often the most underserved, lacking access to products and services offered by members of the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, according to the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s CEO.

“When we founded El Clasificado in East Los Angeles 21 years ago, we were the only shopper with self-empowering editorial aimed at recently arrived Latino immigrants, and now we are a leading interactive media company connecting buyers and sellers in the Hispanic community,” expressed Martha de la Torre, CEO and Publisher of El Clasificado. “We plan to take our winning formula to regions such as Bakersfield, which have a burgeoning Hispanic community but need of services and products customized for them.”

El Clasificado is a print, online and grassroots event marketing company that connects buyers and sellers in the Hispanic community through its handful of niche-oriented websites. A publication with a verified weekly circulation of 390,000, El Clasificado print reaches more than 1.5 million Latinos and is distributed in more than 200 cities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, San Diego and Kern Counties.
