Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and City of Los Angeles honor El Clasificado for 30 years of community spirit and making Los Angeles a great place to live and work

May 23 marked the date of a special evening in the history of El Clasificado, as founders Martha de la Torre and Joe Badame gathered with employees, friends, representatives from City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office, Norwalk Vice Mayor Margarita Rios, Latino community leaders, and several of the company’s advertisers and loyal readers to celebrate El Clasificado’s 30th anniversary.

El Clasificado was recognized by the City of Norwalk – represented by vice mayor Margarita Rios – and the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce, the City of Los Angeles and its mayor, Eric Garcetti, the United States Congress, the California State Legislature and the Ecuadorean Consulate for its community contributions, which include empowering Hispanics by helping them find jobs, grow their businesses, and providing education and access to resources to Latinos across the country.

Omar Unda, the Consul of Ecuador in Los Angeles, honored Martha de la Torre as a role model for children of Ecuadorean parents. “As a representative of Ecuador, we are moved by all the stories of our people. There are stories of hardship, but there is always hope, a success story where effort, perseverance and tenacity show how a person of Ecuadorian descent in such a large country could make her dream come true. Today, as El Clasificado celebrates 30 years, it’s an honor and a proud moment for me to be here to congratulate Martha and her family for what they’ve achieved.”

Praise also came from longtime El Clasificado customers. “I’ve been advertising with El Clasificado since 1997 and I’ve seen how they’ve grown a lot with the community. It has been the result of a good job and the successful team that Martha and Joe have created,” said Efraín Ferrer, from Strong Tie Insurance.

Isbi, a representative of the legal services company Alianza Latina, commented that they’ve been “with El Clasificado for about 20 years. It’s great to be able to share in the anniversary celebration of such a successful company.” Adrián Olmedo, of HogarMex Network, added: “Coming to celebrate 30 years of El Clasificado is like saying: ‘I will accompany the person who has accompanied me in the development of our company.’”  Mr. Olmedo has been advertising with the publication for 25 years.

As the night ended on a high note. The celebration turned from recognizing the company’s success towards the commitment El Clasificado and its employees have for continuing to build the strong and safe Latino communities that it serves.
