Salud y Hierbas, the first Spanish publication about the medicinal benefits of cannabis, has launched in Los Angeles as a niche publication following the legalization of cannabis in California for medical and recreational use. It was inspired by the “Cannabis Workshop 2.0” held by the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce last December. The workshop was dedicated to educate Hispanic businesses on how to tap into the Californian cannabis market legally and responsibly.

The publication, which will hit the streets on Monday, offers a new platform for emerging businesses in the cannabis market to advertise themselves. It also aims to educate the Latino community on the medicinal benefits of cannabis, how to use it legally, responsibly, and safely.

In today’s society, where more people are dying from prescription and nonprescription drug overdoses than die in car crashes, the publishers of Salud y Hierbas hope that Spanish-speaking members of the Latino community discover and understand what safe alternatives to legal and illegal opioids exist for chronic pain and depression.

Cannabis is not the only alternative solution but according to many studies and public health care experts, medical cannabis could be a solution to the current opioid crisis.

Aide Castro, Mayor Pro Temp of Lynwood, has been a long-time advocate of legalizing medical marijuana and offered her advice to Salud y Hierbas on how to guide businesses who want to enter and advertise in the Cannabis marketplace.

Aide strongly believes an economic boom is in the horizon for the Los Angeles mid-cities like Lynwood, and wants to make sure that Latino businesses have the opportunity to legally and responsibly participate and benefit from the California Cannabis market. It’s projected to be over $3 billion alone in 2018.

The first print supplement of Salud y Hierbas includes stories on what is legal and what is not when it comes to cannabis, how to cook your own oil, the economic impact that this new industry might have, and many more.

On Monday, February 19th it will be found for free on the streets of East Los Angeles, Carson, Harbor City, Lomita, San Pedro, Watts, Bell Artesia and Downey, among many others. It will have a total distribution of 30,000 copies and the digital version of the magazine can now be found at Saludyhierbas.com
