For the first time in history, Latinos represent the largest minority in the electorate with an estimated 36.2 million eligible voters, making outreach across the nation more important than ever, especially in areas with high Hispanic populations.
The Phoenix Metro area, like much of the country, has also seen an increase in the Hispanic population share, increasing by nearly 83% from 2000 to 2017. While Latinos comprise 42.7% of the Phoenix area’s population in 2021, mobilizing their voting enthusiasm has proven a steep climb for many politicians. And, as more Hispanics are showing up as first time voters it’s never been more important to capture this interest than now.
In no small part, this can be attributed to be a lack of voter outreach as 25% of all eligible Latino voters said they were never contacted by a political party or candidate.
