Joseph P. Badame is the Chief Operating Officer of El Clasificado, which he co-founded in 1988 with his wife, Martha de la Torre. Mr. Badame is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
He joined Ernst & Young in 1983, became a Certified Public Accountant and manager for one of the most prestigious professional firms in the world. Mr. Badame left Ernst & Young in 1990 to found JBR Group, a forensic consulting practice whose operations he ran while also assisting with El Clasificado’s distribution operations.
Mr. Badame joined El Clasificado full time in 2000, serving as Chief Finance Officer and Chief Operating Officer and implementing several key systems in the accounting and distribution departments of the fledgling organization. Mr. Badame eventually led the development of El Clasificado’s multi award winning distribution infrastructure and system, bringing the publication’s weekly circulation from 120,000 in 2000 to a record 510,000 today.
After struggling to remain afloat and waiting almost ten years to make a profit, El Clasificado is now the largest Spanish-language weekly shopper in the nation, with revenues in excess of $23 million and a state of the art website that ranks among the top 4,000 websites in the nation, with monthly pageviews in excess of 6,000,000. The publication has been recognized as one of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies, an ICIC Inner City 100 Fastest Growing Company for four years, and Martha and Joe were honored in 2008 as finalists for Ernst & Young’s Greater LA Area Entrepreneur of the Year award.
