Inc Magazine and ICIC name El Clasificado One of America’s 100 Fastest Growing Inner City Companies

LOS ANGELES, CA- April 20, 2004El Clasificado, the Largest Spanish Weekly publication in the Western United States, was honored as one of the fastest growing inner-city businesses in the United States at the Inner City 100 Awards Summit held on April 12 in Boston, Massachusetts celebrating Capitalism in the 21st Century.

Over 7,000 nominations were received for the Sixth Annual ICIC-Inc Magazine Inner City 100 List.  “It is an honor to be part of the Inner City 100 list that recognizes businesses that make a positive contribution to the country’s economy creating jobs and empowering the communities of the inner city. ” said Martha de la Torre, CEO and founder of El Clasificado.  “The inner city of Los Angeles has been good to us,” stated Joe Badame, COO and co-founder.  “We have found many gems from the inner city workforce, employees who started while in high school that now are part of the management team that is taking us to even higher levels of success.”  El Clasificado has seen revenue growth of 132 % in five years and employs close to 100 employees, mostly from the inner city.  

The Inner City 100 list has been featured in Inc. Magazine for its sixth consecutive year and was presented at the Sixth Annual ICIC-Inc Magazine Inner City 100 Summit, a two-day event, featuring seminars for the winners at Harvard Business School and events celebrating the positive impact these companies bring to their communities and their local economies.  

The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) is a national, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 by top Harvard Business School professor, Michael E. Porter. ICIC’s mission is to spark new thinking about the business potential of inner cities, thereby creating jobs and wealth for inner-city residents. Between 1999 and 2004, the 364 list winners have created 37,000 new jobs (www.icic.org).
