The Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its annual Awards Gala in which the the founder of El Clasificado and EC Hispanic Media was honored for her great work supporting the Hispanic community.
Long Beach- CA, November 24, 2014 – The Hotel Maya in Long Beach suited up to host the traditional gala dinner presented by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and The Regional Hispanic Institute on November 22, 2014. Since 2003, these organizations award the prize “Women of the Year”, recognizing the impact of women in the Hispanic community through their efforts, their work, their leadership and inspiration.
Among the ten women making a difference in their communities was Martha de la Torre, founder of EC Hispanic Media, a multimedia-platform that includes print, online and digital, and whose flagship publication, El Clasificado remains the largest free Spanish classified magazine in the nation with a weekly distribution of 510,000 copies. This recognition was awarded in the category of “Media” because of the impact achieved in the Hispanic community in Central and Southern California since its inception.
“I am very pleased to receive this award and see that there are many more women succeeding in business, something that was not like this when I started as an entrepreneur 26 years ago,” said Martha at the time of the recognition. De la Torre also highlighted the predominant role of the internet and how proud she is of ElClasificado.com for being at the forefront in its field.
Meanwhile, Sandy Cajas, president of the Regional Hispanic Institute and the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, shared the great value of the award-winning women and the large footprint that people like Martha de la Torre have left in the community, “not only as CEO of El Clasificado, but also for being involved in the education of Latinos, through her position as a Board Member of Loyola Marymount University’s Latino Alumni Association”.
The other awardees of the night were Azucena Maldonado, founder of Latino Golfers Association; Bastian Maria Thompson, founder of Agile Sourcing Partners, Inc.; Lori Ann Guzman-Farrell, CFO of Port of Long Beach; Irene Huerta, community activist and political strategist at ILWU Local 13; Lena Gonzalez, Council Woman of Long Beach City Council; Jaqueline Cacho, founder of Finding Productions; Cynthia M. Ruiz, author and motivational speaker; Carmen Rad, president of CR&A Custom, Inc.; and Carmen Montalvan, founder of Montalvan’s Sales.
