Al Borde Named "Outstanding Less Than Weekly Hispanic Newspaper – Over All" By the National Association of Hispanic Publications

The Los Angeles based biweekly publication was recognized with a total of 14 awards at the 15th annual NAHP Hispanic Print Awards, the nation’s largest Hispanic Media Awards.

Los Angeles, CA – March 27, 2003 – The 15th annual NAHP Hispanic Print Awards, the nation’s largest Hispanic Media Awards organized by the National Association of Hispanic Publications, honored Al Borde as “Outstanding Less than Weekly Hispanic Newspaper – Over All.”

The Los Angeles based music magazine was recognized with a total of 14 awards, including “Outstanding Less than Weekly Hispanic Newspaper – Over All” and “Outstanding Entertainment Section.” Al Borde also received 13 honors in the categories of Editorial, Photo & Cartoon, Design and Marketing awards.

Established in 1997, Al Borde is a free bi-weekly publication focusing on Latin alternative rock and pop music. Formatted as a young oriented tabloid size magazine style newspaper, its unique content is successfully geared to reach the fastest growing market in the USA: the young Latino population.

Al Borde is the only Latin Alternative Music publication that has achieved verified circulation (VAC), printing over 32,000 copies. Distributed mainly in Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire, Al Borde is sent by mail nationwide reaching key people in the music industry and mail subscribers. Al Borde is distributed in over 1,200 locations. Its website is visited by readers from all over the world.

In 2001, Al Borde merged with El Clasificado, one of the mation’s largest free Spanish weekly publications. El Clasificado has a weekly verified circulation of over 130,000 and is distributed throughout Los Angeles County, Orange County and the Inland Empire to over 430,000 Spanish speaking readers. This partnership creates competitive marketing opportunities for advertisers in the Greater Los Angeles Market.

The 15th annual NAHP Hispanic Print Awards was hild March 19-22, 2003, at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. Over 425 publishers, advertisers, and other media professionals attended the annual meeting.

Commenting on this year’s awards, Edgardo Ochoa, publisher and co-founder of Al Borde, said that naming Al Borde as “Outstanding Less than Weekly Hispanic Newspaper – Over All” goes along with the vision of the publication as it enters its sixth year. Al Borde and El Clasificado grabbed an astonishing number of awards from the competition.
