Free concert series presented by Al Borde kicks off in East LA

Los Angeles, CA – April 3, 2008Al Borde’s “Acoustic Sessions,” a quarterly series of free concerts that bring together scores of die hard rock en español fans and one of their favorite bands, kicked off its 2008 calendar year series on Friday, March 28 with a feature performance by LA-based Monte Negro, fresh off the stage of last month’s South By Southwest Conference.

Breaking away a bit from the usual intimate setting at the exclusive Al Borde Lounge, this performance was hosted at El Gallo Plaza in East Los Angeles, where 250 fans of both Monte Negro and Al Borde showed up in droves for the rare opportunity to catch one of today’s hottest live acts for free. The eclectic rock/reggae/new wave group played a 14-song set for the crowd of young, trend-setting, edgy Latinos, including crowd favorite “Give Me Love” and an improvisation of Mexican ranchera classic “La Malagueña”.

“The Acoustic Sessions was an idea we had three years ago because we wanted to reach our readers at a truly grassroots level,” explained Melvin Ortiz, Creative Marketing Manager of Al Borde. “We are thrilled to see how the shows have become something our fans eagerly anticipate thanks of course to the spectacular headliners we consistently deliver such as Go Betty Go, Enjambre, Pastilla and now Monte Negro.”

In addition to Monte Negro’s headlining performance, the event also featured one of the hottest deejay’s in today’s Latin Alternative scene, DJ Ané (of Automatico fame). The event was sponsored by Jack Daniel’s, Monster Energy Drinks, and Toyota. The next Acoustic Sessions show will be a ‘double header’ and is scheduled for May 30th and 31st at the exclusive Al Borde Lounge.

Monte Negro (Epic Records) is a local band with a trajectory that spans more than ten years.
