Los Angeles, CA – October 14, 2008 – Switching gears a bit for the September “back-to-back” Acoustic Sessions concert event, Al Borde took its rock en español shows to the famed Casa del Mexicano in Boyle Heights, where it hosted indie rock groups Fatima and Chana on Friday, September 26th and death metal act Profecía on Saturday, September 27th.  Al Borde, the Latin alternative music and entertainment publication with a trajectory spanning well over a decade, welcomed hundreds of fans to the weekend shows, solidifying the multi-media lifestyle publication’s place as a leading source of Latin alternative music and entertainment for Los Angeles Latinos.

Chana and LA-based quartet Fatima kept the energy high Friday night with two fun, powerful doses of lively pop/punk/rock music, which included a live brass instrument arrangement for Chana’s opening set.  Saturday night saw an even more cultish gathering of Al Borde readers who showed up to catch an “acoustic” performance by Los Angeles death metal legends Profecia, who delivered a remarkable acoustic rendition of Caifanes’ beautiful “La Célula que Explota.” That performance also included violinist Blanca Ornelas, also known as “La Hada Negra” (the Black Fairy), joining the band onstage.

“This event was significant in that we invited the first Metal band to perform at an Acoustic Sessions show,” explained Adriana Hernandez-Fernandez, Al Borde’s Sr. Manager of Events. “Al Borde is one of the few media that focuses exclusively on Latin alternative music, and our readers’ musical tastes range anywhere from Spanish pop, electronica and rock to reggae, ska, metal, punk and everything in between. Not only do we provide that wide coverage editorially, but we also make every effort to bring that eclectic mix to our Acoustic Sessions concerts.”

Event sponsors for the weekend shows were Monster Beverage Co., Jack Daniel’s and Toyota Matrix. The next Acoustic Sessions Concert will take place on December 5th and will feature local Indie rock group Curanderos.

The Acoustic Sessions is a free concert series that features local, Los Angeles-based Latin alternative music bands who perform for an intimate crowd of die hard fans. The quarterly concert series is presented by Al Borde (www.alborde.com), a free publication that reaches the18- to 34-year-old Hispanic demographic, and serves a source for Latin Alternative entertainment news and information. Al Borde is owned and published by the Spanish-language weekly El Clasificado – an Hispanic Business 100 multimedia company – and is rapidly becoming a leading Latin Alternative multiplatform company that offers advertising opportunities through sponsored events, section sponsorships, street team promotions, web sites, and mobile services.
