Los Angeles, CA –May 31, 2006- The Association of Free Community Papers (AFCP) honored El Clasificado and its sister publication, Al Borde, with the prestigious Best of Show award at its annual convention and awards competition celebrated in Miami, FL, from May 4 through May 7.

Over 4,000 entries were received for this year’s contest, making it the largest in AFCP history. El Clasificado, the nation’s largest free weekly Spanish publication, was awarded with Most Improved Publication, Self Promotion for Awards, Best Sales Presentation and Self Promotion in Other Media. Al Borde, an alternative entertainment guide for the Latino community, was recognized for its excellence in design and received Best Cover Design, Best Original Artwork and Best Internet Home Page. In addition, both El Clasificado and Al Borde received Best of Show awards in the “Demand Distribution Publications” category.

The fierce competition in this year’s contest evidences once again the incredible growth free publications are experiencing worldwide amidst declines in circulation of paid publications. Since 2005, El Clasificado has expanded its weekly circulation by 18% to 235,000 and Al Borde has expanded its bi-weekly circulation by 40% reaching 35,000.

“Being named Best of Show by such a reputable association as the AFCP is a great honor and a great motivation to expand our business beyond Southern California,” said Martha de la Torre, Publisher and CEO of both El Clasificado and Al Borde. “We owe the success of El Clasificado and Al Borde to the hard work and contributions made by our amazing team and the support of our loyal clients.”

The AFCP win continues a long tradition of excellence for El Clasificado and Al Borde publications which have gathered numerous accolades from premier magazines such as Inc Magazine, Hispanic Business and L.A. Business Journal and organizations like the National Association of Hispanic Publications, the United States Small Business Administration, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Women Business Owners.
