El Clasificado
LOS ANGELES, CA- June 9, 2005– Amidst declines in circulation by major Spanish and English language dailies across the country, El Clasificado, the nation’s largest Spanish-language weekly with verified circulation, grows to 210,000 in the Los Angeles Hispanic market.El Clasificado was founded in 1988 by Martha de la Torre, Publisher and CEO and husband, Joseph Badame, Chief Operations Officer.  Their combined efforts took El Clasificado from its bootstrap early years to the success story it is today as a Hispanic Business 500 company. In less than one year El Clasificado grew its circulation by more than 40%.  “You can’t just print extra magazines and put them out there for Latinos to pick up.  You have to know where the Latinos are that like reading in Spanish, where to get permits for racks, and where to place racks and what contracted stores deliver results.  Thanks to our circulation and marketing teams we have really developed a model that works,” states Martha.

“We take great pride in our award winning circulation system that has enabled us to expand strategically and effectively alongside the growth of Latino consumers”, commented Joe Badame a former CPA who credits his accounting and auditing background in helping him develop a distribution system that provides accuracy, reliability and effectiveness in delivering El Clasificado’s 210,000 copies weekly. Through our demand delivery system we deliver with precision to over 4000 drops that include major retail outlets like Wal-Mart, 7 Elevens as well as major Latino markets like Gigante, Liborio and Vallarta.  We have our own great team of loyal distributors with our own fleet of cars that distribute to our strategically located wire racks representing over 75% of our drops.  Our remaining distribution in major retail outlets, are contracted and distributed by nationally recognized third-party distribution companies.

El Clasificado has been audited by Verified Audit www.verifiedaudit.com since 1995.  But this is not enough for Joe and Martha, both former CPA managers from Ernst & Young. “We have our own internal circulation auditors to inspect and evaluate our distribution 52 weeks a year.”  This is in addition to Martha and Joe personally inspecting the  effectiveness of new drops and doing spot checks on distributors. The founders are known to take detours on the way to black-tie events if they spot a rack on the way.  While Joe pulls up to the curb, Martha jumps out of the car in her ball gown to inspect the rack. They compare their findings the following week with the distributor’s report to monitor accurate reporting. “The success of El Clasificado is because of the accuracy, precision and reliability of our circulation.  This will never change and we will always make it our personal priority,” say Martha and Joe.

El Clasificado is a highly awarded free Spanish-language weekly publication that blends classified advertising with community service editorial. Now in its 17th year, the magazine has a weekly-verified circulation of over 210,000 and is distributed in over 160 cities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties to over 900,000 Spanish-speaking readers.
