Latino-serving small businesses have been hit hardest by COVID-19. Thankfully, El Clasificado has created a new contest to help these communities recover and thrive again
As the end of the pandemic draws near, small businesses across the country are still trying to find their footing. However, for Latino-serving small businesses, the uphill climb is much steeper. On top of already having less cashflow to begin with, a study conducted by the Stanford Latino Entreprenuership Initiative (SLEI) found that Latinos have their PPP loans approved at half the rate of white-owned businesses. These disparities are alarming, but not surprising.
With vast experience of overcoming adversity, the Latino community and the businesses that serve them are prepared to try alternative routes to keep their doors open. Luckily, El Clasificado is unveiling a brand-new way to increase traffic, digital presence, and ultimately, revenue: The Best of San Fernando Valley Contest or, in Spanish, “Lo Mejor de San Fernando Valley”.
This FREE contest aims at uplifting Latino-serving small businesses in San Fernando Valley by using a “people’s choice” format. Anyone with the link is able to nominate businesses they believe are the BEST of SFV in the following categories:

- Best Mariscos
- Best Tacos
- Best Panaderia
- Best Carniceria
- Best Margaritas
- Best Empanadas
- Best Birreria
- Best Pupusas
- Best Burritos
- Best Tamales
- Best Lomo Saltado
Shops & Services:
- Best Auto Repair Shop
- Best Auto Accessories Shop
- Best Flower Shop
- Best Dentist
- Best Nail Salon
- Best Hair Salon
- Best Insurance Agency
Places to go:
- Best Soccer Centers
- Best Zumba
- Best Salsa Dance Club
The contest will consist of three parts:
- June 16-30 | Round 1 | Nominate Businesses
Anyone can nominate their favorite business in any category. The top 5 businesses in each category will move on to round 2. - June 30-July 14 | Round 2 | Vote for the Winners
Vote for your favorite business in the top 5 nominations in each category to determine the BEST of San Fernando Valley. - August 4 | Awards
Tune in to see the Best of San Fernando Valley winners get announced LIVE!
Winners in each category will receive a Best of San Fernando Valley plaque sponsored by El Clasificado. Finalists will be given special shoutouts in our marketing materials and live event. Anyone nominated will be mentioned in our “Best of San Fernando Valley” digital magazine.
