A panel of experts helped Latino entrepreneurs in an event that was attended by Martha de la Torre, founder of El Clasificado, and Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles

August 21, 2014 – Los Angeles – CA – On the latest Su Socio de Negocios seminar, Mayor, Eric Garcetti opened the doors to the City Hall to host the first Spanish business event, attracting more than one hundred Latino entrepreneurs wanting to learn about the qualities needed to start a business. Looking to educate entrepreneurs on the free resources available for starting or expanding a company, the seminar examined important aspects from how to get loans and training to the appropriate permits, licenses, and more.

The panelists, members of the most prestigious business organizations in Los Angeles like the SBDC and SBA, explained ” How to have a successful business,” through the no-cost services they offer while also honoring the event’s headline. Natalie Orta, from the LA District U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), mentioned how important it is for entrepreneurs to know their credit record before requesting a loan. She also talked about elaborating on legal requirements for drafting contracts with the state and federal government, “business owners can make money of this and we can guide them throughout the process.”

Also included on the panel were Allie Sanchez of the Harbor Business Source Center, Henry Leyva, representative of Kiva Crowdfunding, Claudia Shah, from the Santa Monica Small Business Development Center, as well as Frank J. Aguirre, Business Development Specialist at the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development who was key to create and bring the event together. The panel was also joined by moderator Edgar Muñoz, host of Noticiero Telemundo 52, who emphasized the importance of having Spanish seminars “because this is what the community really needs to help success thrive.”

Further expanding on the advice of the panel, founder of El Clasificado and Su Socio de Negocios, Martha de la Torre shared her own success story as a businesswoman, focusing on points raised by the panelists that included how planning, educating yourself, and understanding your finances helped her succeed with her own company. “Now it is my turn to share what I’ve learned in 26 years of experience with those who have supported me the most, the Latino business community. I’m very passionate about organizing this free Su Socio de Negocios seminar in collaboration with the Mayor of Los Angeles, to better prepare entrepreneurs and help them reach their dreams.”

Concluding the breakfast, Eric Garcetti thanked, in perfect Spanish, the attendees for participating and congratulated the event’s organizers. “I’m very proud of this seminar. El Clasificado, Su Socio de Negocios, and the City of Los Angeles are working together to continue empowering Latino entrepreneurs,” said the Mayor, adding, “The growth of Hispanic businesses is key to the economic development of the city. Together, we will have a great future ahead.”

Event sponsors included New York Life, California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, EC Hispanic Media, and El Clasificado.

Su Socio de Negocios ends its 2014 series of seminars with its business Expo, which will be held on October 8, 2014 in Los Angeles. Ruben Luengas, journalist on Univision America, will lead the seminar. More details to come.
