Los Angeles, CA – July 23, 2009 – Los Angeles’s premier Latin alternative music news source Al Borde has tapped four musicians from local rock en español groups LOS ABANDONED, JUMBO, FATIMA and CHENCHA BERRINCHES to serve as panellists for its inaugural “Escuela de Rock” music workshop event. On Saturday afternoon, August 1st, dozens of students and musicians will participate in one-on-one workshops with the local music celebrities, who plan to reveal industry insights as well as tips on how to pull off some of their signature on-stage techniques.

The “Escuela de Rock” music workshops will take place at El Gallo Plaza in East LA, and will be led by: Moises “Viralata” Baqueiro, formerly with Los Abandoned, covering bass; Enrique “Bugs” Gonzalez of alt-rock group Jumbo on drums; Oscar Loera of “Mexiska” outfit Chencha Berrinches on guitar; and Cesar Villa from the metal group Fatima covering vocals.

Following the individual sessions, the audience will have the opportunity to interact with all four musicians at once as they are joined in a panel lineup by event promoter and A&M Co-creator Melinda Torres, and band manager and promoter Christian Mejia of Intoroq Records and Management. The stellar panel will close the event with an unforgettable jam session that will be nothing short of historic, as it will be the first and only time all four musicians perform together before a live audience.

“As a musician, it’s tough to get a start in the competitive music industry, particularly in our niche of Latin alternative,” noted Industry alternativo veteran Ric Fazekas. “Escuela de Rock is an opportunity that is rarely given to musicians… The wisdom and advice that you can obtain from both the roundtables and full-panel makes this a must-attend for anyone involved in the LA alternativo scene.”
The “All Star” panel will be available for interviews on Friday night, July 31st at the Al Borde Lounge, where they will meet for rehearsal.

“Rock en español is a musical genre that unfortunately has few media outlets left since the Latin rock explosion boomed in the late 1990s,” explained Al Borde President Martha de la Torre. “The reality is that the local Alternativo music scene is bustling and it thrives on events like Escuela de Rock and our Cool Careers for Me, which capture the energy and foster a sense of community among the local rock alternativo crowd.”

Al Borde’s “Escuela de Rock” will be followed that very evening by the signature “Al Borde Acoustic Sessions” concert, which will feature the legendary Los Angeles rock ensemble Las 15 Letras, as well as a special performance by Son Locuaz. Official sponsors for Al Borde’s “Escuela de Rock” event are Monster Energy Drinks and Jarritos.

Both the “Escuela de Rock” and the “Acoustic Sessions” concert are presented by Al Borde, a cutting edge source for Latin Alternative music and entertainment news. For more than ten years, Al Borde has maintained a commitment to high quality content reflecting the unique and creative lifestyles of the young Hispanic population.
