With over 400 million active users, Facebook is one of the most powerful marketing tools in the world, internationally used by thousands of businesses wanting to brand their name and become better known. Although Hispanics are only a small percentage of the total population of Internet users, they are a fast-growing group, especially within the United States. For this reason, the Su Socio de Negocios seminar, presented by parent company El Clasificado, was filled with many Hispanic entrepreneurs from the Los Angeles region, each yearning to learn the newest, most beneficial ways to manage their companies’ Facebook pages.

Leading the business workshop was renowned lecturer, business advisor, and author, Luis Font, who has helped small businesses grow for more than 14 years. To Font, author of the book “Conviértase en una estrella de ventas y negocios,” the seminar’s main purpose was to “influence and encourage Hispanic entrepreneurs to surf the digital world in order to be less afraid of the Internet and what it represents.”

Font discussed the basics about managing a Facebook page and the advantages of marketing in social networking sites. He advised business owners to spend at least two hours a day updating and managing their business profile and to avoid being too obvious when marketing your products, “keeping a low profile will generate more results in the long run,” said the Facebook expert.

Attendees, who were mostly Spanish-speaking, then had the opportunity to participate in free workshops with instructors who guided them through the process of creating a Facebook business page. Jesús Velázquez, one of the attendees and the owner of a jumper business, had never visited Facebook, but left the event with his own personalized business profile, picture and all. “As soon as I get to my office, I’m going to begin updating it because I want to make the most of it. This workshop is a perfect guide to what I was looking for,” he said at the end of the event. Insurance company owner and fellow attendee, Maynor Carrera, said he was “delighted to be able to talk and listen to such an experienced person such as Luis Font; he provided me with information I had no idea it was available to me as a user.”

El Clasificado’s Su Socio de Negocios small business breakfast event took place on June 9, 2010 and also included informational booths by event sponsors such as Wells Fargo, Verizon, Staples, Social Security Administration, Small Business Development Center and Sam’s Club.
