Five chefs will feed 700 diners at the Los Angeles Mission. El Clasificado was invited to participate as one of the paelleros

The very old tradition of feeding the homeless for Thanksgiving will be featuring this year a food trend in Los Angeles, paella. Benjamin Schuster, founder of the California Paella Association, has come up with the idea to put together the best paellas chefs in town to feed the hungry, 700 in total for next Wednesday at the Los Angeles Mission.

Schuster, also owner of the company L.A. Paella Catering, said the event is a way to “give back to the community” through one of the most popular and traditional dishes of Spanish cuisine.

Schuster will cook along other members of the California Paella Association, including Jesús Romero, owner of Social Paella, Piño Moreau, of The Paella King, and Manuel López, owner of The Paella Artisan. El Clasificado will donate the funds for a paella prepared by the editor of the publication, Pablo Scarpellini, born and raised in Spain.

“For years, El Clasificado has donated food, money and time for many charitable causes,” said Martha de la Torre, founder of the media company specializing in the Latino market. “The opportunity to feed people in need for Thanksgiving did not make us hesitate for a moment. We hope this year will be the first of many.”

The event will take place from 11 am at the Los Angeles Mission, a non-profit organization founded in 1936 that has been feeding homeless and low-income people for decades.

More than 700 diners can enjoy various styles of paella. The chefs in charge have already confirmed that there will be “Paella mixta”, with meat and fish, the traditional “Paella valenciana” with chicken and rabbit, and the “Paella negra”, with seafood and squid ink.
